Cash raising Christmas countdown

18th Dec 2018

Four worthy causes can expect a cash injection this Christmas thanks to the pupils of Convent of Jesus and Mary (CJM) who raised over £3000 to support much needed charities.

Pupils at the school marked the countdown to Christmas with an Advent fundraising campaign. The girls enjoyed a Santa Dash, open mic session and a ‘readathon’ with the fundraiser culminating in a no school uniform day to mark the end of the term.

The girls gave generously and raised a whopping £3775 for charity. The money will be shared between St Luke’s Hospice in Harrow, Mary’s Meals; which provides chronically hungry children with one meal every school day, Cardinal Hume’s The Passage; which helps families overcome poverty and homelessness and the Lourdes fund; which will help support a group of CJM pupils attend a pilgrimage to Lourdes next year.

Headmistress of CJM Louise McGowan said:

“This is such a wonderful ending to our school term we have been so impressed by the commitment of the girls to make as much money as they can, many donating their own pocket money to support the charities of their choice. Charitableness is one of the foundations of our school and our girls have done us proud. We are delighted to be able to support these charities at a time of year that can be difficult and expensive for many.”

Only last week the girls held a Christmas Concert that was free to the public and before breaking up for Christmas the school choir attended a local care home where they performed carols for the residents.
